The “You Make a Difference” award is an employee recognition project. Students have the opportunity to nominate faculty and staff members who have impacted their lives. All employees are eligible and 11 winners will receive prizes.

“The program actually started in 1990,” says Jan Bryden, administrative associate for the science and mathematics division, who is spearheading the project.

In previous years, there have been over 100 nominations. Currently, there are around 50. Nominations will be accepted until April 1. Staff members with the most nominations are picked for the award. The committee in charge of the award will pick winners based on nominations in a case of a tie.

“[The committee is] looking for nominations from students of any faculty or staff that have helped them through their course of study here,” according to Bryden.

Past prizes have been a cobalt blue engraved star shaped paperweight, a gift card to the bookstore, and prize donations. Full-time employees are honored at a breakfast held in their honor on Aug. 18, and part-time winners are honored at the Staff Developmental lunch in June.

After the faculty breakfast, members are mailed letters which thank them for the work at LCCC, along with any nominations they may have received, according to Bryden.

Any students who are interested in nominating an influential staff or faculty member can fill out an online form at Paper copies are also available in each division office. Any questions on the award can be directed to Jan Bryden at, call her at 440-366-7383, or visit her office in PS 207.
