Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services (FCRS) has announced a new group on the campus of Lorain County Community College. Geared towards the LGBT community, the group hopes to offer a place where these students can learn about advocacy and identity.

FCRS based in Amherst and specializes in outpatient mental health and behavioral counseling, including drug and alcohol rehabilitation, has planned meetings in an effort to reach out to gay, lesbian, transgender, and questioning LCCC students.

The group, who hopes to affiliate with student life this year, held their first meeting on September 15. In attendance were those students who struggled with their sexual identity. The meetings provide a haven for those students who face stigma and stereotypes on a daily basis.

Meetings are scheduled for the first and third Tuesday of each month. The group’s next meeting is set for October 6 from 4pm-5pm in BU 113k.
