The Collegian staff won two first place awards from the Press Club of Cleveland’s Excellence in Journalism awards. For the Collegian’s work in 2013, the Press Club of Cleveland recognized the student run newspaper’s staff during the 38th annual awards on June 6 at Cleveland’s House of Blues with first place in Best Print Newspaper Story and first place in Best Print Feature Story.
The Collegian staffers together took first place in Best Print Newspaper Story for a 2-year school for their coverage of the passage of Issue 2 last Nov. “The reporting team did an excellent job explaining the significance of a tax levy to their community. With their thorough coverage of the Issue 2 vote, they highlighted the importance of engagement in civic life,” remarked the Press Club of Cleveland.
Current Collegian editor Karl Schneider won first place in Best Print Feature Story for a 2-year school. “The story is a descriptive and rare look at the humanity of prisoners and people on the outside who take time to care about inmates’ intellectual lives,” stated the Press Club of Cleveland.
