The Student Nurse Association at LCCC has been holding a food drive in coalition with The Haven, a homeless shelter in Lorain. Nancy L. Urrutia, Instructor of the program and clinical site coordinator at LCCC says, “Although the SNA has been around for quite some time, the current officers are all new in the officer positions, as are the advisers.  I am not sure if they have done food drives in the past, but we felt this would be a good way to give back to the local community.”
At press time the SNA has delivered nearly 40 bags of food to The Haven Center. They had no set goal to reach, other than to make a ‘sizeable’ donation, according to Urrutia. The SNA intends to follow up with a second box of donations after Dec. 3.
For the SNA as a whole the club has some goals of its own outside of the food drive. “We want to create a strong club that is recognized on campus, to sponsor service projects giving back to the community, and to bring relevant information and speakers to our SNA meetings, to benefit the student nursing body,” said Urrutia.
After a slow spring semester the SNA has come back strong. They’ve committed to monthly meetings and projects such as their current food drive, and they have clear goals for the club they plan to be in the future.
