Commodore Books & More will be hosting the 2nd Annual National Student Day Oct. 4 from 10-4 p.m. in the bookstore and College Commons. The event is cosponsored by the National Association of College Stores (NACS).
Events will include a Mystery Sale, Poker Throw, an Ice Cream Social, the “Famous Prize Wheel” and more. Director of Auxiliary Services David Cummings will be scooping ice cream from noon – 1 p.m. just outside the bookstore. “It’s a big show of support to the folks that keep us employed; the students,” said Cummings.
Merchandise Buyer Lisa Thomas said, “We are going to setup pink buckets and have pink ping pong balls to toss in for discount percentage scratch-off tickets. A Ta-Ta Toss for Breast Cancer Awareness for $1 a toss.” Prizes will include Crusher tickets, backpacks, free coffee, chicken pencils to a three-month pass to French Creek YMCA and more. “Everyone is a winner at Commodore Books & More,” said Thomas.
Part-time employee Yvette Sanchez is looking forward to the day’s events. “I’m excited to help with the basket for drawing percentage discounts for the student customers,” said Sanchez.
Venders, including EMH, AmeriCorp, The Girls Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Women’s Link will be joining the all-day party.
The day is dedicated to showing appreciation to students nationwide for their service and volunteering to their respective communities. Students are encouraged to submit their stories, videos and photos of themselves helping others to be entered to win one of ten prizes, from iPads to up to $3,000 in scholarships.
Commodores Books & More’s Manager Patty Clark added, “This is a great way to show our appreciation with events, giveaways and discounts all day.”
Duck Radio will also be set up outside the bookstore to provide music during the event.
