When not working behind the scenes editing videos for the Digital Media department, former LCCC student Rey Torres Jr. runs the newest student club Stand Out! a talent group consisting of local talent both within the community and on campus.
Torres has more than 17 years experience in the entertainment industry in front of the camera, in television and film production. He started off as a student at LCCC in 1986, earning his associate degree in Television Production and then a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University Partnership in 1993. While attending school, he freelanced as a videographer filming at local venues and businesses.

Success has rewarded  Torres with confidence.  He has won numerous awards including Best Video, Most Unusual Video, Best Technical and two Richard Mellott Friend of Student awards. Under his leadership, the Anime Club of LCCC has won four “Club of the Year” awards and a silver medal Community Volunteer Services award from Congress.
The new club represents a variety of talent. It ranges from musicians, models, actors, dancers, to behind the scenes people: cameramen, photographers, gaffers, and voice-over actors.

Torres says his motivation to form Stand Out! came from his current role as Video Media Production Assistant.
“As a film maker, it is difficult to find talented, dedicated, passionate individuals willing to put towards the effort it takes to go all the way,” said Torres.  “I have seen so much potential coming out of the students here at LCCC and I really wanted to give them encouragement and the support they need.”

More than 72 students have joined the club. Stand Out! will be staging their debut production with a tribute concert honoring the late Grammy award winning music recording artist Whitney Houston. The concert will be held April 6 in the College Commons from 3:30 -4:30 p.m. Following the concert will be an Early College High School dance sponsored by the group.

The club meets Mondays  4:30-5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays 4-5 p.m. in AT 136. For more details email them at Standoutclub@lorainccc.edu
