Lorain County Community College is taking action for cancer awareness. Students and faculty alike may give their support by participating in two events happening within the college’s community.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is being held at Elyria Catholic High School on July 13, 2012. LCCC is sponsoring Team LCCC for the event. All the money that is raised for the relay goes directly to the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
Students and faculty may join the team as a walker, donate money or volunteer their time to help with the tent LC is hosting at the event. Luminaries may also be purchased to honor a loved one who has gone through the battle with cancer.
If time or money is an issue, but you would still like to help out, raffle items can be donated to the HPER department.
More information about LCCC’s involvement in Relay for Life can be found online at lorainccc.edu/relayforlife.
The HPER department at LC is also sponsoring complimentary yoga classes in honor of Kristy O’Brien Wetzel. The classes are held Thursday 11 – 11:50 a.m. and Sat. 9 – 10 a.m. Both classes are running through April 26 and are held in PE 105. No registration is required to attend the classes, but space is limited to the first 25 people. Donations are accepted to help fund the classes.
Wetzel’s friends and family have also started a scholarship fund to honor her memory. The Kristin L O’Brien Memorial Scholarship and the yoga classes are a reminder and memorial to Kristy’s life and commitment to personal wellness.
